Roy Sherman Willis

Roy Sherman Willis, 81, of Burkesville, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2013 at Cumberland County Hospital after an illness. He was born on December 20, 1931 in Cumberland County, Kentucky to the late Willie O. and Era Mae Riddle Willis. He was a longtime farmer, oil driller, and a member of Christian Chapel Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Willis and Phillip “Big Boy” Willis and four sisters, Betty Roach, Shirley Anderson, Lou Johnson and Nelda Dean Riley.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Pruitt Willis, two sons, Stevie Willis and his wife Carla and Anthony Jones and his wife Angela, one daughter, Arlene Young and her husband Greg, all of Burkesville, six grandchildren, Victoria Humphrey and her husband Joseph, Tyler Willis, Paige Young, Matthew Jones, Peyton Young and Dawson Jones, two great grandchildren, Damian and Kadin Humphrey, two brothers, Paul Willis and his wife Bessie and Millard Willis and his wife Deanna, all of Burkesville, six sisters, Irene Spears of Indianapolis, Indiana, Hazel Smith of Burkesville, Margie Thompson of Glasgow, Linda Riddle and her husband Clifford of Burkesville, Phyllis Roach and her husband Tony of Burkesville and Judy Rush and her husband Lyle of Louisville, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were held Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home with Bro. Tom Watson, Millard Willis and Jo Murley officiating. Burial was in Christian Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ricky Riley, Dale Roach, Danny Spears, David Willis, Gary Willis, Timmy Willis, Shannon Spears, Terry Anderson, Chris Sparks and Richie Thompson. Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Key, Dr. Samuel Rice, Dr. Robert Flowers, James Pruitt, Donnie Pruitt, Bro. Thomas Wilson, Duane Williams, Jack Watson, Doug Williams, Leslie Riddle, Mark Brewington and Brian Pruitt.
