Mattie L. Sproul

Mattie L. Sproul, 98, passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born in the Amandaville Community of Cumberland County, Kentucky on October 17, 1917 to the late James “J.E.” Sproul and Ida Newby Sproul.

Mattie professed a hope in Christ on October 10, 1935. She received her education from Punchin Creek Community School of Cumberland County, Glasgow High School and Cortez W. Peters Business School in Washington, D.C. After graduation she enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 10, 1944 and served her country until she was honorably discharged. Mattie continued her career in Washington D.C. for the Department of the Army in 1955 and ended at the U.S. Army Finance and Accounting Center, Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis, Indiana as Supervisor of Military Personnel.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, Sanford, Tyler and Duff Sproul, and niece, Dr. Rubie “Eileene” Crockett.

Survivors include one nephew, Robert N. “Bob” Sprouls of Bakerton, one great nephew, Eric S. Crockett and his wife Brandee of Indianapolis, Indiana, three great nieces, Christy M. Wheeler of Douglasville, Georgia, Alesa J. Norris of Indianapolis, Indiana and Elaine D. Bolton of Indianapolis, Indiana and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 12:00 noon at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Dixon officiating. Family tributes by Margie Duvall and Alesa Norris, and eulogy by Minister Elaine D. Bolton. Burial was in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Sammy Anders, Allen Duvall, Billy Maxey, John Phelps, Mark Rush and Nelson Rush. Honorary pallbearers were Eric S. Crockett, Keith M. Crockett, and Robert N. Sproul.
