Kenneth Lee “Kenny” Barnette

Kenneth Lee “Kenny” Barnette of Newport News, Virginia, formerly of Albany, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018, having attained the age of 65 years, 7 months, and 29 days. He was born in Champaign, Illinois on Thursday, July 30, 1952, the son of James William and Jessie Johnson Barnette. He attended The First Baptist Church in Newport, News, Virginia, he served in The United States Navy for 12 years, and continued working, for 35 years, with the Navy Munitions Command Detachment at the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown, Virginia, he loved to listen to Jimmy Buffet music, he was a ham radio operator, and a member of the events staff at Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his father, James William Barnette, his brother, Alan Barnette, and his step-son, Bryan Wolfe.

He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Carol “Adrain” Barnette of Newport News, Virginia, his mother, Jessie Barnette of Burkesville, his brothers, Barry and Shirley Barnett of Burkesville, Mark Barnett and Lois J. Nevels of Albany, his sisters, Karen Barnette DuBois of Burkesville, Lois Barnette Bishop of Summerville, South Carolina, his brother-in-law, Benjamin Rodgers of Summerville, South Carolina, his nieces, Nichole, Amanda (Travis) Armstrong, Kayln, Lauren, Rachel, Emily, his nephews, Benjamin, Adam, Joey, Dakota, his great-nieces, Isabella, Carolina, his great-nephew, Jason, his stepson, Jason Wolfe and his step-grandsons, Daniel and Bryan.

The funeral service was conducted on Tuesday, April 2, 2018 at the W.J. Smith and Son Funeral Home in Newport, News, Virginia with burial in Danville, Ohio. A memorial will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at the Perkins Cemetery in Cumberland County, Kentucky.
