Jesse J. King passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at the Cumberland County Hospital in Burkesville, Kentucky having attained the age of 92 years and 15 days. He was born on Saturday, February 23, 1924 in the Bow Community of Cumberland County, Kentucky, the son of the late Willie Sam and Sarah Ella (Sewell) King. He was a member of the Burkesville Church of Christ, a U. S. Army World War II Veteran having attained the rank of Private First Class, a bus driver for Cumberland County Schools for 31 and a half years, and a truck driver for 12 years. During his service in the U. S. Army, he was a recipient of the following decorations and citations: Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Service Stars, Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster, American Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of the local V.F.W. and D.A.V. and loved old cars.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Eula Perkins, Jewell Groce Flowers, Lucy Watson Oliver, Paul King, Bercie Moon, Grace Jennings, Howard King, Leon King,and an infant son.
He is survived by his wife, Weltha Virginia Williams King, whom he wed on Saturday, May 1, 1948, his daughter and son-in-law, Sherry Deloris and Steve Radford, his son and daughter-in-law, David N. and Kathy King, all of Burkesville, his grandchildren, Melanie (and Doug) Willis, Meredith (and Jon) Myatt, Tiffany (and Troy) Huddleston, Travis Radford, Luke King, and Chelsea King, and his great-grandchildren, Lanie Willis, Hallie Willis, Gracie Myatt, Miley Kate Willis, and Henry Huddleston.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, March 13, 2016 in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home in Burkesville, Kentucky with Bro. Raymond Castillo, Bro. Jeff Vibbert and Bro. Jacob Jordan officiating. Congregational song leadership provided by Bro. Keith Cooper. Burial was in the Burkesville Cemetery with Military Honors by the Monticello D.A.V. Chapter Number 105. Pallbearers were Frankie Sells, Tommy Watson, Thomas Baker, John Fletcher, Terry Wray and Donald Wray. Honorary pallbearers were Neil Poindexter, Phillip Stover, Doug Williams, Phillip Arms, Billy Maxey, Mike Norris, Paul Short, Darrell Moons, Billy Cain, Johnny Sells, Dr. J. M. Stephenson, Roger Willis, Kenneth Ballou, Donnie Carter, Grady Finley, Dr. Robert Flowers, Sr., Dr. Robert Flowers, Jr., Dr. Samuel Rice, Jeff Vibbert, Keith Cooper, Joe Howard Curtis, Hoy Spears, Donnie Conover, Denzil Smith, Orestus Flowers, Terry Miracle, Ted Smith, Herbert Pierce and Barry Barnett.
