James E. Stephens, 77, of the Pea Ridge Community of Clay County, Tennessee passed way at the Cumberland River Hospital in Celina, Tennessee on Tuesday, January 5, 2015. He was born in Clay County, Tennessee on September 19, 1938 to the late Frank Hurbert and Lura Allene (Scott) Stephens. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Joe Hurbert “Joe” Stephens. James was married to Vonda E. Thompson on August 28, 1959. He was a farmer, Speed Queen Dealer, voted top Franklin Life Insurance Salesman in the 1960’s in Indiana, Chairman of the Clay Soil Conservation District, member of the Clay County Cattlemen’s Association, and the Song Leader for the Celina Church of Christ of which he was a member.
Survivors include his wife, Vonda T. Stephens of Celina, Tennessee, son, James A. “Jimmy” Stephens of Nashville, Tennessee, sister, Jean Nuckols of Fishers, Indiana, brother, Jerry Stephens of Manchester, Tennessee, and Granddog, Charlie Stephens of Nashville, Tennessee.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, January 9, 2016 from the Chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Celina with Bro(s). Benny Levi and Randy Stephens officiating. Interment was in the Williams Cemetery on Pea Ridge.
