Hazel “Justina” Ooten


Hazel “Justina” Ooten, 87, of Muncie, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2014. She was born on July 24, 1926 in Bow, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Waco and Pearl (Vincent) Cash.

She married the love of her life, Claude Ooten, on July 18, 1952, who preceded her in death. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, and looking at photo albums filled with pictures of her great-great nieces and nephews, who she considered to be her “babies.” Justina attended True Light Baptist Church in Muncie, Indiana and started attending Cornerstone Baptist Church when she moved to Indianapolis 10 years ago.

She is survived by a loving family consisting of her brothers, Donald Cash, Wendell Cash, James Cash, Willie Cash; several nieces and nephews including, Norman D. Logan (wife, Kathy), Karolynn L. Deeds (husband, Bruce), Ann Patterson (husband, Dan), great-nieces and nephews, Michael D. Logan (wife, Sharon), Emily Jackson (husband, Sam), Lindsay Garrison (husband, Chad), and her “babies,” Cohen, Addi, Callia, Elli, Crosby, and Caedmon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and five sisters.

A funeral service for Justina will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 W. Kilgore Avenue, Muncie. Pastor Chad Garrison will officiate the service.
