Father Lawrence J. (Larry) Gelthaus, age 60, pastor of two parishes, passed away on December 22, 2017. He had been a priest of the Archdiocese of Louisville for 29 years.
Father Gelthaus, a native of Louisville, attended St. Meinrad Seminary in St. Meinrad, Indiana, and was ordained to the priesthood on May 28, 1988.
He served as pastor of Christ the Healer Church in Edmonton, Kentucky and Christ the King Church in Tompkinsville, Kentucky from 2007 until his death. He also served as pastor of Emmanuel Church in Albany, Kentucky and administrator of Holy Cross Church in Burkesville, Kentucky from 1994 to 2007. He served as associate pastor of St. Helen, St. Francis of Assisi, and St. Raphael churches, chaplain at Assumption High School, and in Hispanic ministry for the Tompkinsville community.
He is survived by his siblings, twin brother, Father Harry Gelthaus, Stephen (Debby) Gelthaus, Rose Michal, Janice (John) Knoop, Terri (Allen) Hogge, and Carol (Dan) Grossman; and many nieces and nephews.
The concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial was held on December 28, 2017, at St. Stephen Martyr Church, Louisville with burial in Calvary Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 18th from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Leftwich Hall at Bowling Park in Edmonton. Everyone is welcome.
