Cynthia “Trudy” Gertrude Wilburn-Brock

Cynthia “Trudy” Gertrude Wilburn-Brock, 53, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2017 in Louisville, Ketucky at Baptist Hospital East after a brief illness. Cynthia was born December 28, 1963 in Burkesville, Kentucky, the daughter of Hilda Wilburn and Emmit Spivey. She was the oldest of four children. Cynthia grew up in Burkesville and attended and graduated as Valedictorian from Cumberland County High School in 1981. She attended the University of Kentucky where she received her bachelor’s degree. While attending the University of Kentucky she became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Iota Sigma Chapter. She later attended the University of Louisville where she received both of her master’s degrees.

Cynthia married Theophilus Clay Brock, Sr. on April 24, 1993. To this union one child was born, Theophilus Clay Brock Jr. Cynthia was a member of Phillips Memorial CME Church in Louisville and served in many capacities including the Missionary Board.

Cynthia spent her entire life as an educator. Directly after graduating from the University of Kentucky she went to work as an Extension Agent. She then began her career as a teacher at the Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women. From this position she was chosen to be one of the select 45 educators in the state to participate in the Distinguished Educators of Kentucky program that traveled the state to assist schools in decline. After serving in this position she joined the Jefferson County School District where she served as Assistant Principal at The Brown School and The Phoenix School of Discovery. She retired from the school system in August 2016.

Cynthia was preceded in death by her husband, Theophilus Clay Brock, Sr., grandparents Herman and Minnie Wilburn, and aunt Linda Rush.

She is survived by her son, Theophilus Clay Brock, Jr. of Louisville; her parents, Mike and Hilda Norris of Burkesville; two sisters, Ellen Norris of Burkesville and Marsha (Darrick) Adams of Dallas, Texas; one brother, Matthew (Katie) Norris of Louisville; three aunts, Vivian (Lawrence) Miller of Hopkinsville, Lucy McDowell of Louisville and Ann (Dennis) Jones of Knob Lick; and seven uncles, Jeffrey Wilburn, Charlie Ray (Nora) Wilburn, Ray (Betty) Norris, Randle (Joan) Norris, Chris (Phyllis) Norris, Artemus (Darlene) Norris, all of Glasgow, and Kyle (Ann) Norris of Louisville; three nieces, Desirae Kirk, Makayla Adams and Kyra Steele and two nephews, Christian Norris and Jakoby Norris; one great niece, Mila Rae Staten and a host of cousins and relatives that love her immensely.

We would like to send our sincere gratitude to all those that participated in her care during her illness. Special thanks goes to special cousins, Deasha Dempsey, Portia Jordan, and Wesley Miller; special friends, Zonetta English, Dorothy Converse, Selina Newman, Carol Mills and sister-in-law, Jackie Brock.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday, September 14, 2017 at A.D. Porter & Sons Funeral Home Southeast in Louisville, and from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday, September 15, 2017 at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home in Burkesville.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. Burkesville, with burial in the Davis Cemetery.
