Bennie Dobbs, 78, of Lansing, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Grand Tower, Illinois on Wednesday, December 16, 1936, to Lavern and Edna Dobbs.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia (Keeton) Dobbs, his son, Christopher (Elizabeth) Dobbs, his grandchildren; Julianna, Alexandria and Jason of Normal Illinois, his twin sister, Barbara Cripps of Johnston City, Illinois, his brothers, Ronald (Donna) Dobbs of Marion, Illinois, Gary (Cindi) Dobbs of Valparaiso, Illinois, his sister-in-law, Lenora Dobbs and several nieces and nephews.
Bennie was preceded in death by his parents, Lavern and Edna Dobbs, his brother, Richard Dobbs, his father-in-law, Robert Ray Keeton, his mother-in-law, Anna Kate Wells Keeton, his brothers-in-law, Robert Wells Keeton and James Cripps.
Bennie was retired from Stolt Nielsen in Chicago, Illinois. He then worked part time for Walt’s Foods in South Holland, Illinois. He served his country, as a member of the United States Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He enjoyed wood working, fishing, golfing and camping. He was a member of The First Baptist Church in Griffith, Indiana.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at The First Baptist Church, 324 N. Colfax in Griffith, Indiana, with Pastor Scott Hobbs officiating. Interment was in The Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville, Indiana. Contributions in memory of Bennie Dobbs may be made to The Cancer Research Institute at the University of Chicago. Kish Funeral Home of Munster, Indiana was in charge of funeral arrangements.
