Arlis Clark Key, 87, of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2016 at his home. He was born in the Tanbark Community of Cumberland County, Kentucky on Wednesday, May 30, 1928, the son of the late Sudie Melton Bruton Murphy. He was of the Pentecostal faith, served honorably in the Army during the Korean War having attained the rank of Corporal, and was a machinist for Chrysler in Indianapolis for over 32 years.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandparents who reared him, Sam A. and Bell Melton, and his brothers, Lowell Bruton and Kyril Bruton.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Key of Greenwood, Indiana, his children, Brenda (and Rev. Wade) Zachary of Asheville, North Carolina, David (and Kim) Key of Greenwood, Indiana, Darrell (and Amy) Key of Greenwood, Indiana, Anthony “Tony” (and Natalie) Key of Knoxville, Tennessee and Candy Ashby of Greenwood, Indiana, brothers, Max Murphy of Greenwood, Indiana and Wes (Joyce) Murphy of Indianapolis, Indiana, sister, Naomi Susie Waggoner of Indianapolis, Indiana, nine grandchildren, David Wood, Jonathan Zachary, Topan Key, Joanna Rice, Kaitlin Ashby, Courtney Key, Emily Key, Tristen Key and Anna Key, and two great-grandchildren, Werner Zachary and Ryan Utterback.
Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Norris-New Funeral Home in Burkesville, Kentucky with Bro. Carlos Burdine and Bro. Wade Zachary officiating. Special singing and music was by The Burdine’s. Burial was in the Guthries Chapel Cemetery in the Guthries Chapel community of Cumberland County, Kentucky. Casket Bearers were Darrell Key, Anthony Arlis Key, David C. Key, Wes Murphy, Nick Rice, Bro. Wade Zachary and Floyd Jones.
